Woman arraigned for spiking patron’s drink, stealing Ksh390,000

A Nairobi woman was on Monday arraigned in court and charged with drugging a man and stealing his property in a nightclub.

It is alleged that between April 4th and 8th, 2016 at Rafikizi Bar and Restaurant along Lang’ata road, the accused – Beth Wairimu Macharia – with others not before court administered a stupefying drug namely Rheobinon to Joseph Munyua Kariuki with the intention of stealing from him.

Ms Macharia, who is a mother to a 4-month-old baby, was also charged with stealing cash and valuables worth Ksh390,000 from Mr Kariuki.

She denied the charge before chief magistrate Francis Andayi and was released on a cash bail of Ksh10,000.

The magistrate also directed her husband to deposit his motorcycle logbook in court as surety.

The matter will be heard on the 3rd April 2017.
