Woman arrested for allegedly biting, burning childs back in Kilgoris

A middle-aged woman was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly mistreating a child under her care in Kilgoris, Narok County.

Rebecca Kemunto is alleged to have burnt and bit the seven-year-old girl, who is a pupil at Kilgoris D.E.B Boarding Primary School, on the back several times.

The girl was taken to the Kilgoris Children’s Office by a teacher before she was later transferred to a safer home.

According to a teacher at the minor’s school, the child had previously fled from home and sought refuge at the institution due to the mistreatment at home.

“There was another time she (child) was brought to the office bearing injuries on her back. On closer inspection, we found out that the woman had been biting her so she had decided to run away from home,” said the teacher.

The teacher added that the accused had previously told them that the girl is not her biological child saying: “She (suspect) said a woman from her village in Kisii gave birth and left her with the child so when she moved to Kilgoris she came with her.”

The suspect is currently being held at Kilgoris Police Station and is set to be arraigned at Kilgoris Law Courts on Thursday.
