Woman arrested for carrying out fake spiritual rituals

A middle-aged woman will spend the night in the police cells at Ruiru Police Station after allegedly conning residents of Gikumari location by pretending to deliver them from witchcraft.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on Sunday, Gikumari Location Chief Joseph Ntwiga said he has received ten complains from area residents of a woman who has been conning them.

“Today we have found a woman who cons people by pretending to pray for them in their homes only to hide witchcraft paraphernalia in their homes then later coming back to remove them, pretending to deliver them from witchcraft,” he said.

“I have received ten reports of people who have been conned by this woman. She is not from here, she comes from Murang’a,” he said.

The woman has been carrying with her cow and goat horns and a small frog, which she puts in a small ventilated bottle.

According to the complains forwarded to him, the woman has been visiting homes in the pretense of offering prayers before planting the objects in their homes, only for her to return at later for prayers where she reveals the objects, insinuating that the owner of the home has been bewitched by their neighbours.

“After interrogation she has showed us the objects she uses in her con which include a frog, cow horns, and goat horns,” said Chief Ntwiga.

The woman is now being held at Ruiru Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court after police are done with investigations.

The woman, according to her victims, demands Sh50,000 as payment for revealing the objects.

Residents say the hardest hit areas was Mitikenda in Gikumari Location, Ruiru Constituency where some people have lost hundreds of thousands.

Chief Ntwiga has warned the residents to be vigilant and report any similar cases to the authorities.

“I warn residents to take care that they don’t get conned by such fake preachers,” he said.
