Woman burns daughters hands for taking Ksh.400 to pay fees

A seven-year-old girl is recuperating at Migori Level Four Hospital after the mother burnt her hands over Ksh.400.

Reports indicate that Tifna Nyanchera burnt her daughter because she took the money to pay school fees without asking for it.

The woman then allegedly tied the girl’s hands, poured paraffin and set them on fire.

She then abandoned the wailing girl and and fled from the scene of the crime at Oyani Maasai village in Uriri Sub County.

The girl’s grandmother, Grace Moraa narrated how she learnt of the incident from neighbours.

She said she has not been able to reach the suspect since the incident occurred and has been forced to take care of the girl at the pediatric ward.

An officer from Uriri Administration Police Michael Ojwang said they are pursuing the suspect who allegedly escaped to the neighboring Narok County.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, the nurse in charge Josphine Moses said the child sustained serious burn injuries on both hands and is currently receiving treatment.

Residents from Oyani Masai village led by Mr. Vincent Ochieng are demanding that the mother be arrested and prosecuted.
