A woman has been arrested after killing one of her children and seriously injuring another at Longete village in Baragoi, Samburu County.

The 35-year-old woman descended on her two daughters aged two and seven with a knife killing the youngest, as the other narrowly escaped death.

The seven-year-old caused a commotion in the house as she screamed for help, alerting neighbours who rushed to the scene and rescued her.

She was rushed to Maralal Referral Hospital in critical condition having sustained cuts on her neck.

The children’s father expressed shock at the incident, saying the brutality meted on her children occurred while he was away.

Area Member of County Assembly Lawrence Lorunyei said the woman suffers from a recurrent mental disorder.

“This woman has a mental disorder, we have previously helped her out but this mental issue keeps reoccurring,” said Mr. Lorunyei.

The woman, who was detained at Baragoi Police Station, has three other children who were away grazing while their siblings encountered the brutality.
