Woman in KNH twin-baby theft pleads guilty
The woman accused of stealing a two-week-old twin baby at the Kenyatta National Hospital on Sunday, February 18 has pleaded guilty to the offence of child stealing.
However, a lawyer offered to represent the suspect, Edinah Kemunto Mabuka, pro bono and requested the court to have her take the plea afresh.
The lawyer told the court that he intends to talk to Ms. Kemunto and make her understand the legal process.
The court directed that she be remanded at the Muthaiga Police Station until Friday, March 2 when she will be brought back to court.
The accused was arrested in Kawangware, Nairobi after a neighbour contacted the baby’s father, Job Nyatiti Ouko, after his heart wrenching story aired on Citizen TV on Monday night.
Ms. Kemunto is said to have suffered a miscarriage recently so when she returned home from KNH with a baby, suspicion arose among her neighbours.
