Woman in Siaya arrested for burning son’s hands over food

A woman in Siaya was arrested for allegedly burning her eight year old son over food.

Pamela Achieng’ Juma, 39, who resides at Awelo Estate in Siaya Township location, allegedly tied the hands of the little boy and doused them with paraffin before setting them on fire.

“The boy who is a Class One pupil has since been taken for treatment at Siaya County Referral Hospital as investigations begin into the matter before the mother can be arraigned in court,” Siaya OCPD Ancient Kaloki.

According to Mr. Marcelus Murunga, Assistant Chief of Mulaha sub-location, the woman reportedly got angry because the boy ate food that was to be eaten at lunch time.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi on Thursday, Murunga said the food the boy ate was apparently to cater for the whole family.

Murunga claimed that the suspect has a tendency of beating up the child often because he “steals food from the sufuria (cooking pot)”.

The administrator stated that neighbours reported the incident which took place on Tuesday which is what led to the woman’s arrest.
