In Summary

  • Ronald Simiyu Wekesa Shakora was reportedly cut on the leg and hit with a blunt object on the head by his wife Barbra after they disagreed over a loss of one thousand shillings, which she accused the husband of stealing.
  • Shakora is said to have succumbed to injuries while being taken to Lugulu Mission Hospital.
  • Community elders condemned such incidences which have been on the rise in the society saying that the fact that some women can beat their husbands does not give them the right to do so.

Police in Bungoma County on Thursday arrested a middle-aged woman who is alleged to have killed her husband following a fight over Ksh.1,000.

The woman claimed that her husband, Ronald Simiyu Wekesa, stole Ksh.1,000 from her last week and he had declined to return the money.

On Wednesday evening, the 53-year-old man reportedly returned home drunk, and the wife demanded for the Ksh.1,000 accusing him of squandering the money on alcohol.

A fight ensued before the woman hit the man with a blunt object on the head and cut him on the leg with a panga.

According to the couple’s neighbour, he heard a commotion in the house before the woman called him to see how “she had punished her husband for wasting her money.”

“His wife called me to see how she had punished Simiyu for using her money to drink. At first, I thought he had only been cut on the leg but when I moved closer, his head was lying on a pool of blood and he was also breathing heavily,” said Patrick Kakai, the couple’s neighbour.

The man was pronounced dead on arrival at Lugulu Mission Hospital.

“We called an ambulance but as soon as it arrived we realized that my brother had passed on. We only carried his corpse,”  Simiyu’s brother Bonaventure Wekesa told Citizen Digital.

Mbakalo sub-location Assistant Chief Christine Wanyala was detained at Mbakalo Police Station pending arraignment.
