Woman loses eye, teeth over Ksh150

Residents of Kimilili Town in Bungoma County were treated to a horrific incident when a man beat his wife to the point of losing an eye and three teeth over Ksh150.

Irene Otieno, 26, said she went to her husband, Rashid Wanyonyi, to ask for additional money to buy food after her husband had given her  Ksh150.

Ms Otieno lamented that the money was not enough, considering other needs in the family, but her husband descended on her with kicks and blows.

“I told him to help me with money for food, he gave me Ksh150 and I told him the money can’t even cater for maize flour, sugar, vegetables, milk and still buy medicine for our sick daughter,” Irene narrated to Citizen Digital.

Efforts by Ms Otieno to escape her husband’s wrath by seeking refuge in a nearby primary school could not save her as Rashid sought her out and continued with his sadistic beatings, injuring her badly on her upper jaw and right eye.

Eyewitnesses told Citizen Digital that intervention from onlookers might have saved the hapless woman’s life, as her husband was relentless with his beatings.

Residents now want Mr Wanyonyi to be brought to justice over the heinous act.

“We want justice to be served, domestic violence is a thing of the past and we should shun it,” said one of the neighbours.

The man is currently held at the Kimilili Police Station awaiting the completion of investigations, while Ms Otieno is appealing to well wishers to come to her aid as she seeks specialised treatment to restore her sight.
