Woman lynched for allegedly killing granddaughter, 9, in Homa Bay

A 59-year-old woman was on Sunday lynched at Kanyamanga village in Homa Bay County for allegedly killing her 9-year-old granddaughter.

The woman identified as Siprosa Chiro was attacked with crude weapons by an irate mob that accused her of causing the death of the minor last year.

Last year, the girl’s body was reportedly found in her parent’s house with the genitals mutilated after she was killed by unknown people under unclear circumstances.

According to area Chief Tom Ondiro, Chiro had just returned home after she fled following threats from neighbors who linked her to the young girl’s death.

The chief said the family of the girl had sought the help of a witch-doctor from Tanzania who hinted that Chiro was involved in the alleged murder of their daughter.

Ondiro said the family members immediately turned violent against Chiro vowing to kill her if she returned home.

The officer said police have began investigations into the matter, further warning members of the public from taking the law into their own hands.

The body of the deceased was taken to Rachuonyo Sub-county Hospital Mortuary.
