Woman poisons daughter, 7, after domestic feud

A 7-year-old girl was on Sunday morning found dead in Masaba North Sub-County in Nyamira County.

It is believed that the child’s mother, 24, tried to kill herself and her two children by poisoning them after a domestic feud in her family in Nyasumi Village.

Confirming the incident, area Chief Charles Okeri said that the woman gave the girl and her 4-year-old brother the poison before taking it herself on Saturday evening.

Efforts by locals to help the girl were too late as the girl succumbed to the poison while her brother and mother were rescued at a different location. The mother was found in a nearby river, awaiting her death.

“The mother and her son are currently getting medical attention at Gucha Hospital in Keroka town after being rescued today (Sunday) morning,” said the chief.

Police have since launched an investigation into the matter as the body of the deceased is preserved in the same hospital’s mortuary.
