Woman strangles her baby to death, commits suicide in Kericho

A somber mood has engulfed Kapchebwai village in Kericho County after a 48-year-old woman allegedly killed her one-year-old child before committing suicide on Friday evening.

According to area Assistant Chief Paul Chumo, Recho Chumo who is a widow, is suspected to have strangled her child before hanging herself using a rope inside her house over health related issues.

Chumo said the woman had confided to her in-law about her health status and was advised to seek medical attention at a health facility where she was placed under medication.

The administrator added that the body of the woman was discovered by her elder daughter who was sleeping in another house, with the baby’s body lying on the bed they shared.

The body has been taken to St Vincent Hospital Mortuary in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
