Woman who gave birth to 5 babies dies at Eldoret hospital

A 28-year-old woman from Sisokhe Village, Kakamega County, who last month delivered five babies died on Sunday in hospital.

Evelyn Namukhula reportedly complained of chest pains at around 10pm Saturday night before succumbing hours later at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) where she was admitted with her quintuplets.

Ms. Namukhula sprung to the limelight when she gave birth to three girls and two boys through a Caesarean Section at Kakamega General Hospital on March 13, 2019.

She was later transferred to MTRH in Eldoret after one of the babies developed complications.

“My baby had trouble breathing and doctors at the Kakamega General Hospital decided to move us here (MTRH) so that the baby could get the help he needs,” she previously told Citizen Digital.

MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson Arwasa said five ambulances were used to separately transport the babies, adding that their temperatures were still – however – very low on arrival but were later stabilised.

The medical practitioners further noted that the smallest of the babies weighed 840 grams at birth, which was way below the average of 3.5kgs.

The deceased and her husband, Herbert Wawire, have four other children and lived in Sisokhe Village, Navakholo Constituency.
