Woman who was doused in petrol, set ablaze by husband dies in Nakuru

A 25-year-old woman who was doused in petrol and set ablaze has died.

Doctors told Citizen Digital that Lucy Nyira succumbed to her injuries on Friday.

“The extent of the burns was severe and as such sustained huge water loss,” PGH Medical Superintendent Dr. Joseph Mburu said.

Lucy had been admitted to hospital with 25% degree burns.

Her husband allegedly set her fire on Saturday night after a domestic quarrel.

Reports indicate that her husband got home in a fit of rage and locked her up inside the house.

By the time the neighbors got wind of the situation, Lucy had suffered severe burns.

Lucy, who spoke to Citizen Digital before her demise, narrated how she had traveled to Nairobi last Friday.

She said she had gone to purchase items to come back home and sell and returned the next day.

“When I got home, he had locked the door and told me that I would spend the night in the cold. This was after even calling him explaining that I was stuck in traffic. He slapped me and I don’t know where he got the petrol from, he poured it on my face and set me ablaze,” Lucy said.

The deceased’s mother, Teresiah Ndung’u, said she rushed to hospital after she received the news and could not recognize her daughter.

Doctors at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital said the patient suffered burns on the face, arms, legs and upper body.

Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu confirmed that the suspect is in custody pending investigations.
