Woman, 48, swallowed four packets of heroin to evade arrest in Voi: Police

Pauline Mugure, 48, was rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon after swallowing a satchet of heroin she is suspected of trafficking.

According to a police report, Mugure ingested four satchets of suspected heroin in order to avoid arrest.

Detectives in charge of the investigation rushed her to the Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi for immediate medical attention.

Further investigation into the matter resulted in the discovery of additional sachets hidden at her home.

According to a 2019 investigation by France24, the coastal region has become a haven for drugs believed to have originated in Pakistan.

According to the report, bodypacking, or the act of swallowing drugs to transport them more discreetly, has become increasingly popular in the region.

Glenn Chibasellow Ooko, 43, a Kenyan national, was arrested at Bangkok’s airport in late 2019 for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 60 packets of cocaine in his stomach.

Ooko, 43, had flown from Ethiopia to the Thai capital’s Suvarnabhumi airport, where he was detained, according to authorities.

According to an x-ray, he had dozens of oblong items in his stomach that were filled with cocaine.
