Women complain about insecurity on Kitale – Lodwar route

Women and drivers travelling from Kitale to Lodwar have raised a concern over increased cases of insecurity claiming that apart from theft, the armed robbers have been raping women too.

Speaking to members of the media, the women lamented that there has been increased incidences of rape in recent times, with the perpetrators taking advantage of the rough terrain to assault women plying the route.

“Women are being forced to alight from the vehicles and raped, instead of evening stealing money surely!” said a resident.

Women from Kainuk say that the rapists – some who are as young as 14 – are preying on women as they go to the market.

“How can you be raped by a person the age of your kid? That has really disturbed us, and we are feeling neglected,” said one of the women.

Addressing their concerns, Kainuk ward MCA David Erukudi said that they have deployed security officers in Kainuk and Kambi Karaya to boost security.
