Women encouraged to vie for elective positions

Women in Siaya County have been encouraged to come out and vie for elective posts in this year’s General Election in order to get effective representation in the positions of leadership.

ODM women leaders in Siaya County led by Julie Akinyi Okelo from Bondo Constituency have challenged the women to come out and compete with men for the posts, noting that they should not just wait for nominations.

She assured that as ODM women leaders they are ready to assist the women aspirants in campaigns to ensure enough women get into leadership positions.

Ms Okelo, who was speaking during a meeting in Siaya Town, also challenged women to be ready to support their own, stating that they should always be in the forefront to support their fellow women to ascend to leadership positions.

She lamented that many times women have been their own enemies adding that it should not be allowed to continue.

On her part, ODM Gem Constituency women leader, Esther Omondi, expressed her gratitude to the ODM leadership for selecting Mrs Agnes Emily Awita as the temporary chairperson of the party in Siaya County, noting that it was a clear indication that they value the leadership of women.

Elsewhere, ODM Siaya county branch executive committee led by chairperson Emily Awita, Secretary Paul Odhiambo treasurer Roseline Okoko pleaded with residents to take advantage of the IEBC’s mass voter registration exercise that is scheduled to kick off next week to register as voters so as to be eligible to participate in August 2017 General Election.

Mrs Awita called on all the ODM officials right from the grassroots level to ensure they work together to be able to deliver effectively on party activities.
