Women MPs in a united re-election campaign
Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has embarked on a campaign to advocate for women leadership after Members of Parliament shot down the Gender Bill for the second time.
While addressing more than 1,500 women from Othaya Constituency in Nyeri County Tuesday morning, KEWOPA chairperson Cecily Mbarire said that they had embarked on a journey to ensure all elected women MPs retain their seats in the next year’s polls.
The MPs said the official launch of the campaign was in Othaya where they urged residents to re-elect Mary Wambui as their legislator.
The network of women Parliamentarians faulted the MPs for shooting down the Gender Bill saying that by so doing, they denied women equal representation rights.
