Women rubbish Nyandarua Governor Waithakas affair rumours

More than 300 women leaders have come out to defend embattled Nyandarua Governor Daniel Waithaka over allegations of an extra-marital affair with a leading cleric.

The women, who come from different regions of the county, held prayers for Waithaka saying that the scandal was brought about by his political rivals.

Speaking during a meeting held at ACK church in Haraka area of Kinangop, the leaders vowed to protect the governor.

Nyandarua County’s Maendeleo ya Wanawake Chair Elizabeth said 2017 politics had begun and the accusations have been leveled by those seeking to oust Waithaka in the polls.

Wanjira praised Waithaka for being a performer, saying that he has brought development to the region. She told the Governor that he should not be deterred by sentiments from people out there meant to tarnish his name.

On Monday night, hundreds of youths stormed the cleric’s home after reports alleged that the governor was there. The crowd camped at the cleric’s home till midnight demanding to be addressed by the governor, but they were later dispersed by the police.

The governor later circulated a statement in the press denying reports that associated him with the incident.

Susan Wangui backed the governor’s statement saying that the cleric  was hosting other guests on the evening in question: “It’s only a very senior county official who came to visit our Bishop and as an opinion leader in the county anybody is bound to visit her.”

Grace Njoki, a Nyandarua County resident, termed the reports as cheap politics and said the governor was in Olkalou town planning for Mashujaa Day celebrations on the night in question.

“Let it be known that we are fully behind Waithaka’s development agenda, and we will not be cowed and those who do not support him should wait until 2017,” She said
