Women outdo youth in funds uptake – CS Kariuki

Gender and Youth Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki has lamented that Meru County’s youth are not taking advantage of the Youth Fund to improve their economic status.

Kariuki said in spite of the impressive 115 per cent repayment behavior exhibited by the youths who have already applied for the funds, many other youths had been left out.

Speaking when she handed cheques worth Ksh.20 million to women and youth groups in Imenti North Sub County, Kariuki directed Youth Enterprise Development Fund chairman Ronald Osumba to start a sensitization campaign to get more youth in the program.

Commending the women who have been applying for the Women Enterprise Fund cash in big numbers, Ms Kariuki said the effort by the Jubilee Government to empower more families to will not be deemed successful if the youth were left to wallow in financial want.

Kariuki said so far since the inception of the funds, groups in Meru had taken up to Ksh.657 million, money that they had used to buy plots and start income generation activities.
