Women protest poor Nandi roads

Residents of Amai and Talilwo areas of Nandi County on Tuesday took to the streets to protest the poor state of roads and the Talilwo – Kapsabet Bridge which was partly swept away by flash floods during the rainy season.

The women, who dominated the group, were dressed like expectant mothers sending a coded message on how difficult movement was for them.

The placards flying protesters said that they have been forced to use alternative routes that are long to get to their destinations.

While accusing leaders of ignoring their complaints, the residents noted that motorists have been forced to use longer routes leading to a hike in fares from Ksh 30 to Ksh 150 at times.

They further noted that the bridge poses a risk to the children who use it on a daily basis when going to school.

They are now calling on the county government to find a lasting solution to the transport issues.

The Talilwo – Kapsabet Road connects several villages to Kapsabet Town and serves a population of over 10,000 people.
