Women Rep Ngirici launches Boy and Girl child support programme

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Purity Ngirici has launched a countywide campaign aimed at offering apt support to boys and girls in the county.

Speaking during the launch of the event held at Kerugoya Stadium on Monday, Mrs. Ngirici highlighted five key pillars that form the basis of her campaign, termed B&G campaign, including the promotion of menstrual hygiene, and the fight against drugs and substance abuse.

The other three pillars are the promotion of talent, promotion of academic excellence, leadership and social responsibility and spearheading the fight against early pregnancy and FGM.

“As a county, we have various pertinent issues that we need to address in order to protect our boys and girls, support them in their quest to achieve their dreams, and safeguard their future. It is for this reason that I have launched the B&G campaign as a means to support our boys and girls.

“The third pillar of this campaign, on promoting academic excellence, targets 9,600 students in its initial phase, through scholarship, sponsored training, bursaries and mentorship through the Kirinyaga Merit Programme. We will be expanding this number in the second phase as we seek to cover every student in Kirinyaga,” she said.

Ngirici also distributed free sanitary pads to school-going girls to ensure they stay in school even during their periods.

The sanitary programme was launched by the Office of the Women Representative in partnership with the national government, through the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs
