Women urged to go for screening even as breast cancer awareness month ends

Even as breast cancer awareness month comes to an end, women have been encouraged to continue going for screenings as this would go a long way toward early detection of the disease.

While addressing over 200 women at Gatundu Cinema Hall, Dorcas Mwangi, a medic at Mama Lucy Hospital, dispelled fears about the screening, saying that the procedure is not intrusive,

“It’s good to know your status early enough. It is a painless process and it’s very fast. This test enables you know your status and take necessary measures,” said Dorcas.

The screenings, which have been offered for free during the October Cancer awareness month, had registered a low count in the county, raising a cause for alarm.

The women were however urged to embrace an active lifestyle, eat nutritious food and exercise regularly as these changes reduce one’s chances of getting breast cancer.
