Workers demand 3-month dues as Nakumatt Mega City shuts down

Nakumatt Mega City employees now want to be paid salaries dating back three months after the retailer shut down the Kisumu outlet on Monday.

The 37 workers, who showed up for work only to find doors to the store locked, have now served the management with a seven-day notice to clear their pay.

The staff has since sought reprieve from the Ministry of Labour which hence compelled the retailer to clear the dues in the coming week.

According to the workers who spoke to Citizen Digital, the retailer’s action is tantamount to unlawful termination of their contracts which were set to expire in January 2020.

The further expressed shock at the lack of proper communication over the store shutting down saying the outlet was still packed to capacity.

Nakumatt Mega City was the retailer’s last remaining outlet in Kisumu, it’s closure now leaves only five outlets in the entire country.
