Wreckage of chopper in Lake Nakuru crash retrieved PHOTOS
The wreckage of the helicopter that crashed into Lake Nakuru on October 21, 2017 was on Sunday (November 19) retrieved from the murky waters of the lake.
A Kenya police helicopter removed the wreckage in an operation that took less than ten minutes ending a long search that had brought together various rescue teams including the Kenya Navy.
On Friday (November 17), the wreckage of the ill-fated chopper was discovered but it could not be removed from the waters due to delay in arrival of the equipment required to pull it out.
The search operation, however, still continues as the bodies of two victims – John Mapozi and Sam Gitau – are yet to be recovered, a month since the accident which claimed five lives occured.
Hopes that the missing bodies would be found stuck in the remains of the chopper were dashed after the wreckage was pulled out of the water with no bodies being found in it.
On Friday, the body of Veronica Muthoni, who was among those who perished in the accident, was recovered and taken to Umash funeral home in Nakuru.
Other victims of the October 21 crash were; Captain Apollo Malowa and Anthony Kipyegon who have since been buried.
