Wreckage of missing plane spotted: PS

The wreckage of the missing plane has been spotted south of the Aberdares by an aerial search team.

According to Transport Principal Secretary Paul Maringa, a helicopter that was conducting aerial surveillance located the Fly SAX aircraft in Njabini.

“The ground search will intensify in the next hour despite poor weather conditions that are posing a challenge,” the PS told Citizen TV.

The missing plane from Kitale had 8 passengers and two crew and went off the radar at 5:20pm, the exact time it was expected to land at the Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

On the day that the flight disappeared, a multi-agency search and rescue team was immediately dispatched but had to call off the exercise due to poor weather.

The following day, the search resumed but was called off yet again.

Family and friends of the missing passengers and crew gathered at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi awaiting further information.

Some of them were also seen arriving in Njabini as it emerged that a prominent businessman from Kitale was one of the passengers onboard.

A hearse from the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi was also spotted driving into the compound in Njabini.

On Wednesday, the Kenya Red Cross dispatched a team to the Aberdares to boost the search for the missing plane but their vehicle collided with an oncoming lorry.

11 members of the team were rushed to hospital.
