Yatani: Primary census results to be released after 3 months

The government has said primary results of the 2019 census exercise will be released after three months.

Acting National Treasury CS Ukur Yatani said an in-depth analysis of the population is expected to be ready within one year.

“The basic reports of the census are expected to be released within six months,” he said during a Press conference on Thursday.

According to him, preparation activities including personnel recruitment are complete.

He said the officials are adequately trained and will be dispatched to their designated areas.

129,123 enumerators are to cover conventional households while 9000 will cater to restricted areas such as prisons.

Yatani further noted that the government has set up a communication centre to relay information on an hourly basis.

“The information collected will be collected with utmost confidentiality in conformity with the UN fundamental principles of official statistics and as stipulated in the Statistics Act 2006,” he added.

Yatani who is also the acting Treasury CS, noted that the total budget for the exercise was Ksh. 18.5billion, spread across five years.

He revealed that the highest allocation in the budget went to remuneration of personnel.

The census that kicks off on Saturday for one week will be purely digital, with Yatani stating that the devices to be used were manufactured by two local universities.
