Yemen Airstrikes Force Cancellation of President Kenyattas US Trip

President Kenyatta had left Nairobi last evening on board his official Kenya Airforce aircraft destined for Dubai, United Arab Emirates where he was due to connect to a commercial flight to Los Angeles.

According to a statement to newsrooms, Statehouse said that the trip was cut short following reports of increased military activity in Yemen which posed a challenge on the routing leading to a decision to turn back.

President Kenyatta was scheduled to attend the 2015 Milken Institute Global Conference.

The conference is aimed at bringing together political and business leaders to exchange ideas in a bid to overcome some of the world’s toughest challenges.

The President was to address the Milken Institute Corporate and Investor roundtable on April 27th, and address the conference in the evening.

Kenyatta and his Rwandan counterpart Paul Kagame were the only foreign Heads of States in the conference that set to run from April 26th to 29th.

President Kenyatta was also expected to meet Kenyans living in the US on April 25th at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel.

The President touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 11.42pm.
