You are Jubilees foot soldiers, Uhuru Kenyatta tells MCAs

President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Jubilee Party MCA hopefuls to mobilise voters to turn up in large numbers come August 8, saying they are crucial to his re-election campaign.

Speaking at Eldoret State Lodge as he wound up his Rift Valley tour Wednesday, Uhuru told a delegation of leaders from Elgeyo/Marakwet and Nandi counties that though they delivered huge crowds during the rallies, true success would be delivering the numbers on Election Day.

“We should not celebrate crowds and forget that what matters are the votes that are cast on the polling day. It’s one thing for wananchi to be happy and another to ensure they cast their votes,” said President Kenyatta.

He urged leaders to conduct door-to-door campaigns ahead of the polls, saying that – out of all the county positions – MCA candidates were best placed to drum  up support for the party as they are Jubilee’s foot soldiers.

“ Our governors, members of parliament and senators are very important, however the most crucial people are the members of county assemblies because as foot soldiers they ensure the party wins all other seats,” said the President.

He asked MCAs to encourage the public to vote in Jubilee candidates, arguing that having a majority in Parliament would go a long way to helping the party implement its agenda.

“It’s not easy to lead a nation without the majority of party members. How can you move or negotiate your agenda in parliament without majority of your party members,” said President Kenyatta.
