You can watch Arsenal and Liverpool at home, defiant Matiangi says order to close bars still on

Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has defied pleas to revoke the order for all bars to be closed from Saturday 5pm for the census.

Speaking on Thursday during a Press briefing by the Cabinet committee for census, the CS remained adamant that he would not rescind the directive.

“Bars open at 2pm, you can have your beer till 5pm when they close. If by this time you will not have had enough, then I think there is something wrong with you,” he said.

According to Matiang’i, the move to have all social hangouts closed is not insensitive as was alleged by a section of Kenyans.

He was responding to utterances on social media including that of Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga who termed his decision as ‘unjustified and unwarranted.’

In a further clap back, the CS told off football fans who sought to have him change his decision citing the much publicised Liverpool vs Arsenal match that begins at 7:30pm on Saturday.

“You can watch Arsenal and liverpool at home, your family may have the rare chance of watching with you,” he added.

The CS also reiterated that security officials will be on high alert and county commissioners are issuing accreditation documents to observers who have until 6pm Friday to be vetted.
