You will answer for Kenol deaths at ICC, DP Ruto allies tell IG Mutyambai

Political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have hit out at Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai telling him to prepare to take responsibility for the violence witnessed at Kenol in Murang’a County over a week ago where two people were killed and several others injured.

The legislators, who spoke at a funeral in Mathira, Nyeri County, on Tuesday, warned the IG that the International Criminal Court (ICC) might come calling for him saying the deaths were as a result of crimes against humanity.

They further blasted Mutyambai telling him to avoid being used by a government that has only two years left in power, warning that he may face unspecified consequences in the next government.

“IG, the ICC is beckoning, you will answer for the deaths at Kenol and any other Kenyan that will die…Those misusing you now did the same to Ali before you and he ended up in ICC…Under your watch IG, people were poisoned in Kikuyu, people were evicted, all these are crimes against humanity,” said Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wa.

Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, on his part, said: “Polisi mtajibu maswali kwa serikali inayokuja…Uhuru hangekuwa rais kama sio Ruto, na hiyo kila mtu ata watoto wanajua…Wale waliunda serikali sasa wako nje, hiyo hatuwezi kubali…”

His Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro, on the other hand, accused police of being complicit in the Kenol chaos which he termed as being State-sponsored.

“Kenyans are peaceful, na hakuna mtu anaweza rusha mawe kama hajalipwa na kuambiwa atasimamiwa na serikali…Tuliona polisi wakipiga saluti kwa wale walikuwa wanachoma matairi na wakapiga teagas kanisa,” said Nyoro.

The DP’s allies further rubbished the new government restrictions on public gatherings saying they are illegal and unconstitutional.

“The Public Order Act is not consistent with 2010 constitution…It is not legal, and we want to tell the IG that nowhere else in the world we have seen a church teargassed…Bwana IG you have no power to deny anyone permission to assemble,” added Ichung’wah.

“The law must be applied to all…And if they are angered by the new conversation they better know it will continue…The hustler narrative will continue, wao waongee mambo ya cheo huko juu, sisi tuongee mambo ya hapa chini.”
