Youths Ask President To Visit Nyanza

The groups, China Squad and American Marine held peaceful demonstrations in Kisumu and vowed to promote peace in the county.

The two groups were joined by hundreds of local residents in peaceful procession within the lakeside town.

The demo started at Car Wash, Kondele and snaked its way through the Central Business District (CBD) before the youths congregated at Taifa Park where they addressed the media.

Organizers of the demo called for the county’s security to be tightened and leaders to shun politics and work for the people.

The demonstration also sought welcomed the President and any other persons keen on developing the region to visit the county.

Peter Okore who was one of the organizers said it is time people forgave each other and soldiered on for the good of the county and nation.

“I lost millions of shillings when my business was destroyed but I cannot hold it anymore that is why I forgive those who did it,” said Okore.

Civil society leader, Kilen Omondi said such an initiative was important as it brings together youths.

“We don’t want to be used as goons anymore but want the county government to engage us directly in matters of development,”said Kilen.

The demonstration comes a few days after CORD leader Raila Odinga made a scathing attack on the Jubilee government over claims that the military assisted in rigging the 2013 elections

The youths invited President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit Kisumu and initiate projects that will steer development in the area.

One of the leaders of the China squad, Boy Akoth, said it was time the region worked with the government.

The youth now join other leaders in Nyanza who have also lashed out at MPs condemning people who are helping to develop the region

A meeting held in Kisumu last month had the same resolution of giving development-conscious leaders a go-ahead to invest in the region.

There were other leaders from Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu and Migori who agreed to work together and foster development in the region.

Homa Bay Majority leader, Michael Ooro said he will invite the President and his deputy to fundraise for needy people in his region.
