12 athletes arrested partying in Eldoret, to be quarantined

Twelve athletes among them four ladies were on Wednesday night arrested while partying at Eldoret Block 10 estate in Kimumu.

Police say they are to be quarantined for 14 days.

The 12 are Julius Lagat, Washington Muigai, Cynthia Cherono, Christine Chemutai, Brian Okwaro, Judy Cheruto, Dismas Kiplimo, Timothy Rotich, Winfrey Atieno, Gideon Kosgei, Alex Lagat and John Mwangi.

According to Uasin Gishu County police commander Johnstone Ipara, a member of the public sent him a video tip-off yesterday (Wednesday) at around 4pm prompting the arres.t

Ipara said his officers conducted an operation at the estate at around 7pm and arrested the 12, noting that they are still investigating if the 4 ladies who were among them are “genuine athletes”.

The 12 are alleged to have congregated at a student’s bed-sitter room which they literally converted into a bar.

Alcoholic beverages were confiscated from the room in a 7pm raid. They are  currently locked up at the Eldoret Central police cells awaiting to me moved to a quarantine facility.
