Abondo finally lands in SA to seek Ajax move

Want-away midfielder Ali Hassan Abondo is finally in South Africa with Premier Soccer League side Ajax Cape Town shortly after he was released by domestic league champions Gor Mahia.

According to Soccer Laduma, the well-decorated 26-year-old who was lauded for his huge contribution towards Gor’s league success last season joins Maritzburg United man Ashley Hartog in trials with Roger de Sa’s side

Ajax are currently placed 10th in Absa Premiership Standings and are in the race to secure a top eight finish that will qualify them to the lucrative MTN 8 or better.

Abondo who left Gor after a protracted tussle over his contract joins last season’s club top scorer, Michael Olunga, Meddie Kagere and – seemingly – Coach Frank Nutall in the growing list of key architects of the unbeaten run to depart the K’Ogalo camp.

The midfielder fondly known as ‘Tear gas’ by the Green Army was omitted from the line-up as they lost 1-0 to archrivals AFC Leopards in Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby.
