Acakoro eyeing glory at Chapa Dimba na Safaricom Finals

Acakoro head coach Pauline Awuor said her charges are ready to go all the way ahead of the nationals of the Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom tournament in Meru County.

Acakoro from Nairobi will face Nyanza Region’s NCOED in the quarter-finals that kick off on Thursday with seven girls’ and eight boys teams set to battle for the glory.

“So far so good, all is well, our preparations physically, mentally and spiritually are good and we are good to go,” coach Awuor said.

Despite having the full squad for the games, the coach said there have been challenges which the team has faced from the preparations as well as the availability of players whom are school girls current in school.

“The challenge is at school because currently the teams are also playing regional copa cocola finals so it has been a challenge for us to cooperate with the schools but I have managed to get all the girls for the Chapa Dimba Finals,” she said.

The 32 players who trained in Spain for a 10-day have already rejoined their teams and are expected to be key in assisting their respective teams clinch the top spot.

The finals will be graced by Spanish legendary footballer and former Liverpool and Barcelona winger Luis Javier Garcia who is also La Liga ambassador.

“Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom offers an opportunity to Kenyan youth to develop and grow their talents. I will be joining the teams in Meru for the finals and mentorship sessions with players and hope to leave an impact in their lives. See you in Meru for the finals,” said  Garcia.

Teams that qualify for the semifinals are set to pocket KES 250,000 each, while the finalists will take home KES 500,000. The overall winners in each category will receive KES 1 Million among other individual prizes.

The finals will see new winners being crowned after reigning champions Kapenguria Heroes and Plateau Queens were eliminated in the early stages of the tournament.

Quarter Final 2: Euronuts (Central) vs. Manyatta United (Nyanza)

Quarter Final 3: Berlin FC (North Eastern) vs. Al Ahly (Rift)

Quarter Final 4: Shimanzi Youth (Coast) vs. South B United (Nairobi)
