Achieng eyes golden boot after Yei Join Stars show

Vihiga Queens striker Maureen Achieng has set her eyes on the CAF Women’s Champions League golden boot following her scoring blitz against Yei Join Stars on Wednesday.

Achieng netted thrice in Vihiga Queens’ 11-0 demolition of the South Sudanese side with her teammate Violet Wanyonyi scoring four times.

She expressed her happiness for getting the goals that lifted her side second in Group B,  vowing to utilize every chance she gets with an for the top goal-scoring award.

“I’m very happy for my achievement and I can say it was due to team work because we were determined to win. For now I want to utilize every scoring chance I get because I want to emerge the top scorer.”

Wanyonyi expressed confidence of winning their last match of the group staged and earning a place in the semi final stage.

“We really felt bad after we lost our first match, of course a team coming down mot of time losses its morale but that wasn’t the case with our side, we composed ourselves knowing it was a must win.

“Even if we will finish in the second position from our pool, we don’t care, what is important is qualification. I’m telling Kenyans that we are ready to lift this trophy. Our last match against New Generations is a must win so fans should expect maximum points,” Wanyonyi said.

The final group matches will be played on Friday at the Nyayo National Stadium where Tanzanian side Simba Queens will squire it out with FAD from Djibouti in an early kick off at the Kasarani Stadium before New Generation play Vihiga Queens at Nyayo Stadium.

Uganda representatives Lady Doves will tackle PVP from Burundi at Nyayo Stadium while CBE will tackle Yei Join Stars later at Kasarani.

The winner of the competition will represent the region in the inaugural women CAF Champions League set for Cairo Egypt in December.
