Action shifts to league as Equity, Pipeline aim to maintain impressive run

Equity Bank men and Kenya Pipeline Company women’s team will be seeking to extend their dominance in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League when the fourth leg serves off in Nyeri from Friday.

Equity and Pipeline are enjoying good form and sit pretty at the peak of their respective league tables with 15 and 12 points respectively.

The bankers will face Kahawa Garrison on Friday in what is expected to be a tough duel, but they hope to overcome the latter to maintain their lead at the toip of the table.

In the women’s category, Kenya Pipeline will open their campaign against Bomet County at 9am before winding their day’s programme against Ashton at 1pm.

At the same time, Kenya Prisons head coach David Lung’aho has said that his team is ready to do well in Nyeri despite a slow start to the campaign. Prisons who face Western Bombers are placed fifth in the table.

“We are ready to battle it out in Nyeri, so far we are in sixth position having played the least matches. I hope we win all of our matches so that we move to ten points and be second in the league.

“The team is preparing well and all the players are in good shape so I expect positive results in the league,” added Lung’aho.

The weekend matches will be a precursor to federation’s Challenge Cup tournament – a competition primarily set for winners of Friday’s league matches. The tourney will also take place in Nyeri on Saturday and Sunday.

After the weekend action, the national team players will report back to camp to allow Malkia strikers continue with their preparations  for the FIVB Women World Cup Championships slated for Japan from September 29- October 20.
