ADAK reap more from Anti-Doping Norways cooperation

The Kenya Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) has lauded the moves to actualise partnership with the Anti-Doping Norway (ADNO), in helping the local body to build capacity in eliminating the doping menace.

ADNO conducted an intensive training to Educators in Nairobi with a view of refreshing their skills and provide them with an avenue to benchmark with some of the world’s best practice.

Speaking during the closing ceremony of the two-day event that ended on Monday, ADAK Board Chairman James Waweru extolled ADNO for their support to ADAK since establishment of the partnership.

“ADNO has proved to be a worthy partner. They held our hands when we were groping in the dark and they still continue to give us the much-valued support. On behalf of ADAK, I wish to sincerely thank them for being there for us all this while,” said Waweru.

in the same vein, ADAK Director of Anti-Doping Education and Research Agnes Mandu reiterated the value of the training to refining and augmenting the critical education skills possessed by the Educators.

“We have experienced remarkable growth in the manner in which our Educators have been conducting their business since the last training we had with ADNO in November, 2016. Before then our training method was mainly one-way and designed as lectures.

“Since our engagement with our partners from Norway we have reinforced and diversified our delivery methods to include outreach, values based and workshop programs. Each of them is unique to the other in many ways and we appreciate the effort by ADNO to get us off the ground. They showed us how to flap our wings and now we are soaring high,” said Mandu.

The lead trainer, Ann Engelstad who is also an Advisor on International Relations at ADNO, echoed the same sentiments and congratulated the Educators for impressive performance during a workshop for handball athletes.

“Kenya has done extraordinarily well in the area of Anti-Doping Education in particular and in the fight against doping generally. I witnessed their capabilities after sitting through a whole day workshop for handball athletes and I give the educators a thumbs for a job well done.

“What I saw is a team of dedicated men and women with the passion for the promotion of clean sport in their country. The mastery of issues and their mode of delivery of anti-doping messages is a clear pointer that they have perfected their act,” underscored Ann.

The Agency continues to constantly reinvigorate its Anti-Doping strategies and approaches with a view to dealing with emerging issues in the diverse sector.
