Adema: Coach Ayimba behind Kenya Sevens success

Kenya Sevens scrum-half Biko Adema has hailed the influence of Head Coach Benjamin Ayimba as the main reason behind Kenya’s historic Singapore triumph saying that on and off the pitch he is always inspiring them to get better.

‘’With Benja he keep its simple in terms of  encouraging us and assuring us that there will be better days to come if we put in the work and its us to make the better days  come if we show the world what we can do things will get better for the team,’’ Adema told Citizen Digital.

Ayimba, who returned at the helm of the sevens team last year in September taking over from Felix Ochieng who was in charge of the team after the departure of Paul true impressed in his first assignment which was to qualify for the Olympics and after remarkable comeback against Zimbabwe in the qualifiers finals winning 19 -17, Adema says from that time the coach demanded hard work from each one of them.

‘’He relates so well with players and I think it’s because he is a former player himself. He has been in the coaching position before, he understand what the players go through and together with the management they try and work things around from the players point of view, There is also a lot of input coming from the senior players in the team that creates a good relationship between the players and the management ’’ added the player

Vice-captain Collins Injera has been very instrumental in the team’s performance, the man of the match in the Singapore finals and is chasing the record of all time try scorer currently being held by Argentine Santiago Gomez Cora (230) with his current record standing at 225.

‘’I see Injera breaking that record. It’s just a few steps remaining and we can see that happening in the next two legs but if it doesn’t happen then next season will definitely be the moment. He works hard, is an inspiration to other players and always gives his best to the team,” Adema said.

Having missed the Singapore victory because of a hand injury with Samuel Motari taking his place, Adema is hoping for a quick recovery in order to make a comeback to the team ahead for the Paris sevens were Kenya has been pooled in group ‘A’ alongside New Zealand, Russia and Portugal.

‘’It all depends on what the physio and the team doctor will say, I will do a review in the next two weeks to determine the next step ‘’ he said.

Shujaa are currently placed 7th in the series standing and Adema is hoping the team will keep up with the momentum as they look forward to the summer Olympic Games in Rio

“Before we left for Singapore I spoke to the coach and the players and told them after the Hong Kong performance the possibility of winning a medal Rio is very high as long as we continue with the discipline in the defense, and the energy in the attack the chance of getting a gold medal in the Olympics are there,” stated the Nondescripts RFC ace.
