Adhiambo counts Chapa Dimbas profits in Starlets Cecafa team

Harambee Starlets Under-20 team head coach Florence Adhiambo has hailed the role played by Chapa Dimba na Safaricom tournament in molding most of the players picked to form her squad ahead of the Cecafa Women tournament.

A total of 36 players have been selected for the tourney, after three-day trials which ended yesterday at the Barclays Sports Club Nairobi, majority of the players selected from the tournament, seven of whom went Spain as part of the Chapa Dimba All Stars.

Other 10 players who did not make it to Spain but were part of the tournament are joined by 19 more from the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) and those who were in the competition in 2017.

“Chapa Dimba has given young youths opportunity to showcase their talents and opportunity to earn from their passion, thus making it easier for the Under-20 officials to select in the large pool of talent. Through initiatives like these problems of the past we had in scouting players have diminished. We only had to wait for School Games to be able to scout these young players,” she told Citizen Digital.

Among the selected players include, Stella Ahono (Bishop Njenga), Caroline Rufa (Nthiwa Queens), Valentine Odeu (Wiyeta Girls), Sheila Kiprop (Wiyeta Girls), Esther Amakobe (Nyuki Starlets) Teresia Lundu (Mathare United), Beverline Achieng (K’obala Mixed), Cynthia Matekwa (Nyuki Starlets), Diana Hashina (Acakoro), Judith Atieno (Mathare United), Laventine Lihemo (Wiyeta Girls), Joy Kinglady (Kwale Girls), Lenah Wanjala (Nyuki Starlets)

The East African girls football fiesta will be held in Kenya in July.
