Adios as Kitambi finally leaves AFC Leopards

Dennis Kitambi has officially left his post as AFC Leopards coach as he prepares for new role at Bangladeshi club Saif Sporting Club which is managed by his mentor Stewart Hall.

His departure means Argentinean Rodolfo Zapata also formally assumes his full responsibilities at the Den after he was appointed to take over from Kitambi last month.

Citizen Digital has established Kitambi will fly out to his home country Tanzania before linking up with Hall whom he deputized for during the Englishman’s Leopards stint last year.

“I have officially finished my work at Leopards today and expect to fly out of the country at the end of the week,” Kitambi said.

Kitambi was this week announced SJAK Coach of the Month for March after guiding Leopards to four consecutive Kenyan Premier League (KPL) wins during that month.

That spell – during which he served in interim capacity following the dismissal of Robert Matano – prompted the Leopards hierarchy to offer him the top job but he turned it down.

Kitambi leaves Ingwe after four wins, four draws and two losses with the team sitting fifth on the KPL log 21 points six behind leaders and arch rivals Gor Mahia FC.

During his time as the head coach, the Tanzanian managed to inject a free flowing style of play, allowing his players to express themselves freely on and off the pitch and quickly turned round the club’s season after a foul start under Matano.

He has been at Leopards since December last year when the then head coach Hall brought him from Azam SC as his assistant.
