Advantage Zoo as Tusker docked KPL points

Kenyan Premier League champions Tusker FC have been docked three points following a ruling made by the Independent Disciplinary and Complaints Committee (IDCC) in favour of Zoo Kericho FC.

The blow is a sizable hit to the Brewers in their title defence bid and now slide down to sixth on the KPL log on 29 points, below Sofapaka FC and Ulinzi Stars on goal difference.

In the set of rulings made by the IDCC on Wednesday, Tusker were punished for failing to produce players’ cards despite the committee concluding in their findings that the breach had not been ‘deliberate’.

“Our hands are tied, and we must apply the rule as it is. Tusker FC automatically forfeited the match as per rule 7.5(c) and as per rule 3.8 on forfeited matches, the match is hereby awarded to Zoo Kericho FC on the prescribed score of 2-0 basis. The two goals of Tusker are cancelled and do not count,” part the of the ruling read.

Consequently, Humphrey Mieno and George Mandela – both of whom were on target in the 2-0 win away at Zoo – have had their goals tally reduced. Jackson Macharia and Collins Shivachi have also had their assist tally reduced.
