AFC Leopards raise Ksh 5M to pay players

President Uhuru Kenyatta donated Ksh 1 million to AFC Leopards at the club’s fundraiser held at a Nairobi hotel on Tuesday night.

The fundraiser was organised to help contribute money to help settle players’ salary and allowances arrears that stretch to as far back as four months.

President Kenyatta’s donation was made on his behalf by Jubilee Alliance Party David Murathe.

Other leaders who attended the event include Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga, who was the guest of honour, Nyandarua Senator Muriuki Karue, Lugari MP Ayub Savula, Cyrus Jirongo among others.

AFC Leopards slumped into a financial crisis after their shirt sponsor Mumias Sugar withheld their sponsorship due to monetary constraints at the company.

The situation has forced some of the players at the club to write to the Kenya Premier League seeking permission to terminate their contracts with the club over unpaid dues.
