AFC Leopards striker Aswani targets KPL Golden Boot

AFC Leopards top scorer, Kepha Aswani has set his sights on the 2016 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) Golden Boot to give fans in the Den something to cheer after an underwhelming season.

Aswani sunk his 12th of the season in their 2-2 draw with Ulinzi Stars FC at Afraha Stadium Nakuru to tie with suspended Muhoroni Youth forward, Wycliffe Ochomo and John Mark Makwatta who plays for the soldiers at the top of the Golden Boot race standings.

The former Thika United striker has set himself a target of 17 goals for the campaign that he believes will bag him the coveted title of the league’s best scorer with four games left.

“Every game is going to be a cracker and there are no easy matches since every team in the KPL is tough,” Aswani told ahead of Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby with archrivals Gor Mahia.

The former international said he was ready to work with new boss, Stewart Hall who was appointed on Wednesday to take the place of Belgian Ivan Minnaert who was said to have had a frosty relationship with the player.

“All coaches are the same and I even didn’t have problems with Minnaert. We had Ezekiel Akwana as our coach and we are not complaining,” Aswani underscored.

Last season, former Tusker FC striker, Jesse Were took the Golden Boot with 22 with Michael Olunga who was at Gor coming second with 19 ahead of Makwatta who notched 14.

This means that Aswani will to work extra hard to finish ahead of the on form Makwata and the suspended Ochomo.

Leopards are sitting 12th in the KPL log and play the dispirited champions whom they beat 1-0 in the first leg aiming to complete a domestic league double.
