AFC Leopards to face Santos of Brazil in friendly match

Kenyan Premier League side AFC Leopards will play Brazilian side Santos FC in a friendly match to be staged at Bukhungu Stadium, Kakamega on December 1.

Leopards playing unit is currently on a pre- season break and is expected back in training on November 4, a day before they welcome their new head coach, Serbian Nicola Kavazovic who was appointed over the weekend.

Confirming the planned friendly, Leopards organizing secretary Timothy Lilumbi said that the Bukhungu tie is of much significance to the players and the new coach who will use the game to gauge his players before the domestic league starts on December 8.

“We will play Santos in December 1 which is a World Aids Day… but we shall know much when they land in the country,”Lilumbi told Citizen Digital.

Santos is currently placed seventh in Brazil’s 20-team league. They have accumulated 46 points, with eight games to go. Gor Mahia is also expected to face the Brazilian giants in another warm-up match.

Meanwhile Kavazovic who takes over from Argentine Rodolfo Zapata is expected to hit the ground running with his first port of call being the warm- up test against the Samba side.

He however faces a more daunting task as Ingwe have gone two decades without a league title.

Ingwe finished seventh last season after blowing hot and cold, culminating in the surrender of the  FKF-Shield which they had won a season before.
