African Games medallists will be rewarded heavily Ombok

Boxing Federation of Kenya (BFK) president Anthony Ombok Otieno ‘Jamal’ promised to reward heavily any boxer who will jet home with a medal after the conclusion of All African Games in Rabat Morocco.

Ombok joined the provisional squad in their first training session at the Police Depot in Mathare, Nairobi. Speaking after the training, encouraged the boxers to train hard in order to be fit in time.

“Today’s training has been good I feel as part of the whole squad, currently, we are in our non-residential training but am appealing for the government to make it residential as it will enable the boxers to concentrate fully,

“To our boxers, I urge them to train hard and I will be rewarding any boxer who will come home with a medal,” added BFK president.

The provisional squad continues to train under the guidance of coach Musa Benjamin who praised all the pugilists for their morale stating that they have the potential to do better in the forthcoming African games.

“The task ahead of us is no easy but am happy with the progress and the boys are showing potential and determination to do better,” said the coach.

Among those present at the training were the duo of Kenya Police Humphrey Ochieng ‘Jakababa’ of Shaffi Bakari, Edwin Okong’o of Kenya Defence Forces, Mohammed Ali of Mombasa among others.

The provisional squad is made of 17 male fighters and nine ladies who are both aiming to make it to the final squad of 10 men and five ladies to represent the country in Morocco. The final squad will be named early next month before the team travel for the games slated to begin on August 19.

The Games are set to run from August 19-31 in Rabat and Casablanca in Morocco.
