Afrobasket qualifiers: Near full house at Morans camp

Dennis Kamariki in Nairobi

It’s a near full house for the national men basketball team Morans as the team continues to polish their rough edges ahead of the looming Afrobasket qualifiers set for next month.

The team reported to camp last week and head coach Cliff Owuor has been handed a massive boost ahead of this week’s sessions after all the local based players reported.

“All the players are in camp; we are taking a day at a time by monitoring the progress which is positive. By the end of the week wherever we will be, in terms of shots and execution, is when we will judge, but for now I feel confident,”  Owuor said.

The players in camp are team captain Griffin Ligare who also doubles up as Thunder skipper with fellow Thunder team- mate Faheem Juma, Equity bank duo Victor Ochieng and James Mwangi.

Others are KPA’s duo Victor Odendo and Valentine Nyakinda, Ulinzi’s trio Joseph Khaemba, Eric Mutoro and Victor Bosire,  as well as Strathmore Blades’ Fidel Okoth.

Yet to report to camp are foreign-based players who are expected to link up with their team mates, two weeks to the qualifiers.

The qualifiers are set to take place in Kigali, Rwanda from 25th to 29th November 2020 with Kenya facing Angola, Mozambique and Senegal.

The Morans qualified for the second round after winning the pre-qualification round that was held at Nyayo Stadium gymnasium earlier this year.

The top three teams from the qualification journey will qualify for the Afrobasket Championship that will be held in Kigali, Rwanda in 2021.
