After starring for KPA, Aran now eyes national call-up

After his starring role helped Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) bag the 2018 league title, power forward Dickson Aran is aiming for a national team call-up.

Aran was the star act in the league campaign and his heroics did not go unrewarded as he bagged the Kenya  Basketball League men Most Valuable Player award for 2018.

The weekend heroics saw the dockers retain the league title for the third straight time after edging Ulinzi Warriors 79-59 in Game Three of the final playoffs.

Aran who has turned out for KPA since 2010 won the award for the first time piping Ulinzi’s Eric Mutoro to the honours.

And key in the 29-year-old former Kiembeni Heat player bagging the award was team work, discipline and hard work.

“I want to thank my players for this award; if it were not for them I wouldn’t have won. I’m now looking forward for a national team call up,” Aran told Citizen Digital.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi’s forward John Washika bagged the most disciplined player award.   “In the military discipline is a key factor and it’s no-brainer that one has to maintain discipline in and out of camp and that’s what motivated me to win the award,” Washika who has turned out for the soldiers since 2015, said.

Apart from his impeccable discipline, Washika starred for the soldiers scoring 20 points to emerge the top scorer in the final, his dream is to one day play for America’s giants Oilers.
