Ajax sensation De Ligt decides to join Juventus

Juventus have moved ahead of Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in negotiations for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt, but are still to agree personal terms with the 19-year-old,’s agent, Mino Raiola.

De Ligt’s camp are asking for £10.7m-a-year, plus bonuses – a deal which would make the Netherlands international the second-highest-paid player at Juventus, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo.

It is understood the transfer will cost the Italian side in the region of £62m.

De Ligt is one of Europe’s most sought-after players after captaining Ajax to the Dutch league and cup double as well as the semi-finals of the Champions League last season.

The teenager said he would make a decision on his future after the Nations League, with Manchester United, Barcelona and PSG also reportedly interested.

However, according to Sky in Italy, the centre-back has made the decision to join Serie A champions Juventus.

De Ligt looks set to become Maurizio Sarri’s first signing as Juventus manager after he left Chelsea to return to his native Italy.

The defender said he was asked about a move to Juventus by Ronaldo, who moved to Turin from Real Madrid for £106m last summer, at the end of the Nations League final earlier this month.
