AK announces new venues for Relay Series

Athletics Kenya (AK) has introduced changes on its calendar ahead of the second Relay series scheduled for Saturday.

The meet was scheduled to be held in Kisumu but has now been shifted to the Nyayo National Stadium on the same date.

Consequently,  the third series which was earlier earmarked for Nakuru has also been shifted to Nyayo with the dates remaining unchanged as it will be held on April 16.

According to AK senior Vice President in charge of competition Paul Mutwii,  the changes have been necessitated by the introduction of new relay events ahead of the global competition set to be held on May 11-12 in Yokohama, Japan.

“This changes are as a result of many logistical inputs required especially by the newly added events which are not found in many local Stadia,” Mutwii said.

The two events introduced ahead of the biennial event are; the 2x2x400m and a mixed shuttle hurdle relay that will involve two men and two women on each team running 110m legs.

On the other hand, the mixed 2x2x400m race requires both members of the team to run two 400m legs of a relay.

The new development comes after the first meet was also rescheduled from Mombasa to Nairobi on March 2.

After the two meets athletes will retreat to the Lorna kiplagat Stadium on April 13 for the trials to select team Kenya for the global competition.
